His legal team appealed his conviction in December 2025 and his release date has been moved up multiple times without explanation
Since October 2025, Sean "Diddy" Combs' life has looked dramatically different from the lavish one he once led in the spotlight.
The Bad Boy Records founder was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in July 2025, following a months-long federal investigation into allegations of sex trafficking and related criminal conduct. He was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering — charges which could have put him behind bars for life — and later sentenced to 50 months in prison that fall.
Diddy has pursued multiple avenues to reduce his sentence, including appealing his prostitution-related conviction and asking for a presidential pardon. His release date, originally set for June 4, 2028, has also been moved up to Feb. 23, 2028, though the Federal Bureau of Prisons has not explained the reason for the change.
So, where is Diddy now? Here's everything to know about his attempts to change his sentence and his life behind bars.

In October 2025, Combs was transferred to FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in New Hanover Township, N.J., to begin his sentence, which is over four years long, per CNN.
The facility houses about 4,100 people, including former NBA player Sebastian Telfair, who gave the rapper a shout-out after he was released.
"My boy Diddy is in the spot too," he told TMZ in December 2025. "I couldn't imagine how Diddy felt, but Diddy's holding it down, he's doing what he's got to do. Where he's at, they're going to help him."
Diddy reportedly requested Fort Dix to be close to his family as he served out the two and a half years left on his sentence. The approximately 14 months he spent at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., after his arrest counted as time served, per ABC News.
He entered a drug-abuse rehabilitation program
Another reason Diddy reportedly requested the New Jersey facility was because he allegedly wanted to take advantage of its drug treatment program, per CNN and CBS News.
Inmates must qualify to get assigned to the Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program (RDAP) unit, and participating can reduce their sentences by up to a year, according to the Bureau of Prisons.
During his sentencing, Diddy blamed drug use for his actions and claimed that he was "sober for the first time in 25 years. ... Prison will change you or kill you," he wrote in his sentencing memo, according to CBS News. "I choose to live."

CBS News reported in November 2025 that Diddy has gotten a job as a chaplain's assistant, a prestigious assignment at Fort Dix.
Tasks include maintaining the religious library, record-keeping and cleaning the chaplain's private, air-conditioned office.
The hip-hop mogul's publicist, Juda Engelmayer, confirmed his assignment to CBS News and said Diddy has described "the environment as warm, respectful, and rewarding."
He appealed his conviction and sentencing
In December 2025, Diddy's lawyers formally appealed his prostitution-related conviction, citing that videos of his "freak-offs" were "amateur pornography" protected by the First Amendment, the reported.
Alexandra Shapiro requested that Diddy's conviction be reversed or that he at least be freed and resentenced because the judge allegedly considered evidence from his acquitted charges when sentencing him to 50 months in prison, per the AP and CNN.
Diddy also reportedly asked President Donald Trump for a pardon, but he told The New York Times in January 2026 that he did not intend to grant it.
In April 2026, Shapiro argued her case in front of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan, which has yet to announce a ruling.

Since he started serving out his sentence in October 2025, Diddy's release date has been moved up at least three times.
The Bureau of Prisons initially listed the mogul's release date as June 4, 2028. It was then moved up to April 25, 2028, before getting changed to April 15, 2028.
Most recently, it was set to Feb. 23, 2028. So far, the Bureau hasn't publicly explained the change.
Where is Diddy now?
As of June 2026, Diddy is still being held at Fort Dix and is awaiting a ruling in his appeal case.
