Daryl Sabara announced the death of his father, who he says he only met a "couple of times"
Sabara, who became a father himself in 2021, has spoken about how fatherhood has been a healing experience
The news comes shortly after Sabara celebrated his 34th birthday with his wife Meghan Trainor and their children
Daryl Sabara is mourning the death of his father.
The Spy Kids star, 34, made the announcement on Instagram Friday, June 19, two days before Father's Day.
Next to a picture of him and his father, Sabara wrote, "My Dad, Roland Sabara, passed away last night."
"We only saw each other a couple of times, and I will cherish those memories forever," he said. "I know he did the best he could, and I know he's in a better place now 🤍."
Essence Atkins commented on the post, "Daryl… sending love and my condolences to you and your beautiful family. ♥️🕊️🙏🏽."
Nicole Scherzinger wrote, "I'm so sorry, Daryl. Sending you love and prayers and condolences my friend 🙏🏽😔🤍."
Sabara is a father to three children with his wife, Meghan Trainor.

Trainor, 32, and Sabara are parents to sons Riley, born in February 2021, and Barry, who arrived in July 2023.

The couple welcomed their third child, daughter Mikey Moon, on Jan. 18, 2026, via surrogate.
Speaking to PEOPLE in June 2023, when he and his wife were on the verge of welcoming Barry, Sabara candidly reflected on how fatherhood has helped him deal with his feelings surrounding his own father.

He told PEOPLE that his experience as a dad up to that point had been a "cathartic" one, sharing that his own father left when he was only 1.
"I'll say that it's pretty amazing because I didn't have a dad growing up," Sabara said. "My dad left my family when I was 1. So becoming a dad has kind of given me this existential experience of getting to become the dad that I always wanted."
News of Roland's death also comes days after his son celebrated his 34th birthday on Sunday, June 14.

Trainor shared a sweet Instagram video of her and their children presenting Sabara with a cake as they sang "Happy Birthday" to him.
"34 looks good on you @darylsabara," wrote Trainor in the caption. "Yesterday we had an erewhon themed bday party for their biggest fan lmao. ✨DAREWHON✨happy birthday to my best friend and the love of our lives!"
