Rod Stewart canceled upcoming tour dates after undergoing a successful coronary stent procedure

The singer will take four weeks to recover but plans to return to performing soon

Stewart has faced multiple health challenges this year but remains committed to his music career

Rod Stewart is hitting the brakes on his current tour as he recovers from surgery.

The legendary singer, 81, canceled all upcoming show dates after successfully undergoing a routine coronary stent procedure, a representative for Stewart told PEOPLE in a statement on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

“Doctors are pleased with his recovery, and Rod is doing very well and has returned to his normal daily activities,” the statement said. “On the advice of his doctors, he will take the next four weeks to recuperate and regain full fitness before returning to the stage. Unfortunately, this means he will be unable to continue his current tour dates.”

The “Maggie May” singer was scheduled to be on the road through Sept. 3, and had six Las Vegas residency dates slated for late August.

Stewart said in a statement that following his surgery, he is “already feeling better and very much on the mend.”

“I want to thank the doctors, nurses and everyone who has taken such wonderful care of me,” he said. “I’m deeply disappointed to miss these shows and sorry to let my fans down, but I look forward to getting back on stage and having a good time with you all again soon.”

The health update comes two days after the British singer was forced to postpone a show in Cincinnati at the last minute due to “an unforeseen but minor medical procedure that required prompt attention.”

At the time, the show was rescheduled to Aug. 11, and a rep for the star said Stewart was “expected to make a quick recovery.”

The star has been on a stretch of shows for his One Last Time tour since March, though he previously canceled and postponed concert stops in June after he was diagnosed with an acute upper respiratory infection, laryngitis and vocal strain.

Still, Stewart has been adamant that retirement is not in the cards for him.

“I still enjoy what I’m doing. I love it,” the musician told PEOPLE in October 2025. “You can tell it’s written all over my face. Absolutely love it.”

His most recent album, Swing Fever, came out in 2024.
