Rene Nezhoda speaks out on Darrell Sheets' death, alleges cyberbullying

Rene Nezhoda is speaking out after the death of his longtime "Storage Wars" costar Darrell Sheets.

Nezhoda took to Instagram on April 22 to remember 67-year-old Sheets as "a very hard worker" who "cared, more than anyone I've probably ever met, about their family." In his video, Nezhoda went to to allege that Sheets was a victim of cyberbullying.

Sheets "had a guy really, really tormenting him lately and cyberbullying. Guys, just because you watch us on television doesn't mean you know us," Nezhoda said. He added, "Also, it doesn't entitle you to bully somebody."

"You shouldn't cyber bully at all," Nezhoda continued. "As a matter of fact, if you have somebody in your life that thinks it's funny to cyberbully other people, may that be a celebrity, athlete or little girl at school, or a schoolmate, slap them in the back of the head. Make them become a better human being, because you never know what demons somebody faces."

Sheets was found dead in his western Arizona home around 2 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, the Lake Havasu City Police Department said in an April 22 news release. According to authorities, his manner of death was suspected to be suicide. Police said Sheets' death "remains under active investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available."

While Sheets was an original cast member, Nezhoda and his wife Casey joined "Storage Wars" in Season 4. And though they both angled for storage lockers – and the possible bounties inside of them – Nezhoda set the record straight on the two of them being on friendly terms.

Michael Tilson Thomas, a renowned conductor and composer, died on April 22 following a battle with brain cancer, Thomas' representative, Donagh Collins, confirmed to USA TODAY. Nezhoda said. "We were the biggest threat out there. So deep down, me and Darrell were friends. We talked every now and then."

A&E, which airs "Storage Wars," said in an April 22 statement to USA TODAY that the network is "saddened by the passing of a beloved member of our Storage Wars family, Darrell 'The Gambler' Sheets. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time."

Sheets appeared in 163 episodes of "Storage Wars," which premiered in 2010, but has only sporadically appeared in the latest seasons after he revealed he'd suffered a heart attack in 2019. Upon leaving the locker trade industry, he moved to Arizona and owned an antiques store.

He was a father of two, including daughter Tiffany Shane Sheets and son Brandon Sheets, who also appeared in the A&E series following in his dad's footsteps. Sheets' bio indicates that he hoped to pass on the "adventure and education" of storage buying to Brandon.
