Laura Dern is opening up about mourning her mom Diane Ladd over one month after the actress died at age 89.
“I just haven’t gotten there yet — I haven’t let myself be in it yet,” the Oscar winner told The Hollywood Reporter of processing her mother's death.
Dern, who currently stars in Jay Kelly and Is This Thing On?, added that emotions about Ladd's death feels "so compounded" after the January 2025 death of director David Lynch "and other losses that have happened this year."
"But I will say," added Dern, "while I’m in the deep thick of it, looking at photos and watching things and trying to figure out how to honor her and honor him and all of that to come, I feel really blessed by their legacies — by holding onto the things they’ve given us in art and in friendship and in memories, in stories and in activism, in all of it."

The star also described the weeks after her frequent collaborator Lynch's death at age 78 as "a very tender, heartbreaking time," adding to THR, “I feel like I’m still just at the beginning of it.”
Dern, whose dad is actor Bruce Dern, 89, announced news of Ladd's death on Nov. 3, saying, "My amazing hero and my profound gift of a mother, Diane Ladd, passed with me beside her this morning, at her home in Ojai, Calif."
"She was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created," added Dern. "We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now."
On Nov. 29, Dern marked what would've been Ladd's 90th birthday.
"Happy birthday to my hero, the most extraordinary person I have ever known," she wrote. "As an artist and human being, you were always loving, always dreaming, always creating, and ever in service for all. I love you, Mom."
