Joe Biden’s son Hunter opened up about his father’s ongoing cancer battle in a new interview.
The former president was diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer in May 2025, just months after leaving the White House.
Joe’s wife Jill Biden previously revealed that the White House team “missed” the symptoms of her husband’s cancer while he was in office.
Joe Biden’s son Hunter is sharing a rare update amid his father’s ongoing battle with an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer. In a new interview with BBC Newsnight, Hunter revealed the former president’s stage 4 cancer has spread as he opened up about the progression of the “very painful” disease.

“The only thing I can say about my dad, about his health right now, is that I wish he would complain more because it’s not good,” the 56-year-old frankly told the reporter during the August 8 interview. Hunter revealed that Joe’s cancer—which was diagnosed in May 2025—is getting worse. “The cancer has spread,” he explained, adding, “It’s metastasized into his bones and further. It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating, in many respects.”

However, Hunter shared an optimistic message amid the update, later adding, “He’s still out there. As long as he’s alive, I promise you, he is going to continue to fight.”

Joe’s wife Jill Biden previously told Craig Melvin that the 83-year-old’s cancer had metastasized to his bones during a Today show interview on June 1. “I think if he had just been diagnosed with prostate cancer, that’s one thing, because that can be cured, but the fact that it metastasized to his bones, that makes it a whole different story,” the former first lady said at the time. She added, “I think Joe will live with cancer till the rest of his life.”

Joe was diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of cancer just six months after leaving the presidency. In a CBS News Sunday Morning on May 31, Jill recounted the “shocking” moment the Biden family got the diagnosis, revealing that Joe’s symptoms of cancer were “missed” despite their “amazing care in the White House.”
The View from the East Wing author also got candid about her role as a caregiver and some of the daily stressors she’s had to deal with during her Today show interview. “It’s so hard to be a caregiver in that you worry every day, ‘Is he eating right? Is he getting enough exercise? Did he have his medications?’” she said at the time.
