Christine Quinn is opening up about her return to Selling Sunset after leaving in season 5

Of the cast shakeup ahead of season 10, she told TMZ, "the trash needed to be taken out"

Several cast members, including Chrishell Stause and Mary Bonnet, have exited the series, while original cast members Quinn and Heather Rae El Moussa are rejoining

Christine Quinn is getting candid about Selling Sunset's upcoming tenth season.

Outside The Oppenheim Group offices on Tuesday, June 16, Quinn, 37, opened up about her return to the hit Netflix reality series, after previously departing the docusoap in season 5 in 2022.

When asked what made now the right time to return to the show, she told TMZ, "the trash needed to be taken out."

Quinn also said she "needed to be divorced" from her estranged husband, Christian Dumontet, before returning to the show. The former couple split in 2024 in a tumultuous series of events that included Dumontet's arrest in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident. Quinn and their son, Christian Georges, 3, later relocated and made a new life for themselves in her home state of Texas.

"I think the timing is just right," Quinn said on Tuesday, before being asked if she'll be re-entering her "villain era" in the upcoming season.

"Maybe you'll have to tune in and see. It depends on the day," she teased.

In late April, Netflix confirmed that Selling Sunset had been renewed for season 10. The show, which follows the cutthroat lives of luxury real estate agents at The Oppenheim Group in Los Angeles, first premiered in 2019.

However, since season 9 ended, a number of the series' famous faces have chosen to step away from the franchise. Chrishell Stause, Mary Bonnet, Nicole Young, Alana Gold and newcomer Sandra Vergara have all stated they will not return.

TMZ also reported in April that Emma Hernan and Chelsea Lazkani would be exiting the series. Rumors quickly began to swirl online about the cause of the departures and the state of the show.

In March, a representative for Young, 41, who starred on the show for seasons 6 through 9, exclusively told PEOPLE that she was leaving the series and that her portrayal on the show "over a number of seasons" was "rather disheartening to observe."

Despite the exits, Netflix confirmed in April that original cast members Quinn and Heather Rae El Moussa, who exited a year after Quinn, are rejoining the series. Bre Tiesi and Amanza Smith will also continue to be on the show, according to the outlet.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Bonnet, a staple since season 1, spoke about her decision to leave and shared that while she would no longer appearing on screen, she was keeping her off-camera job.

"I'm the vice president of The Oppenheim Group, so yeah, I'm not fired," the 45-year-old told PEOPLE.

"At the end of season 9, you can see that I'm not okay with the direction that the office is going, that the show is going," Bonnet said. "I signed up for the show, I thought it was gonna be woman empowerment. I thought it was going to be a very positive thing for women and for the real estate industry and I think it's kind of taken a turn from that."

As for Quinn's return to the series, a Netflix press release stated that she reconnected with the show's creator Adam DiVello following her split from Dumontet.

She also revealed she'd be returning to the show "from a very different place, with more perspective, confidence, and clarity," per the release.

"I'm still ambitious and direct, but I think people will see a version of me that's more centered and even more sure of herself," she added, opening up about becoming a mom. "I'm not coming back to play an old version of myself. I'm coming back to show where I am now and let the audience see that growth can still come with an edge."
