Ayo Edebiri has learned a lot.

The 30-year-old actress reflects on the major lesson she's learned from her years on The Bear while speaking with PEOPLE at the Final Family Meal event on Monday, June 15 in New York City ahead of the show's fifth and final season.

Edebiri has won an Emmy Award, made her directorial debut and co-written an episode while starring as Sydney Adamu in the hit drama. Looking back now, she says the show has taught her that she is capable of taking on new challenges, especially with the support of her colleagues.

The actress says she would sometimes feel like she "wasn't sure" if she could accomplish certain things or she would put them off, thinking, "Yeah, eventually, but not yet." However, working on the series taught her that "things can be done and they are also not done alone."

"There are always people there to support you, help you and answer questions, and be mentors, collaborators and friends," she shares.

The Bottoms star has been in The Bear since its premiere in 2022. She took home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2023 and made her directorial debut with the season 3 episode, "Napkins." The episode was well-received and earned her another Emmy nomination.

In season 4, Edebiri and her costar Lionel Boyce wrote the episode "Worms."

With the series coming to an end, she says she's "going to miss working with this team of people."

"We've found our own way of communicating. Not just with the cast, but with the crew. I've gone to other sets and realized that there's something that's very special and unique to what we do on this show with each other," Edebiri says.

"So that's what I'm going to miss, but I know that I won't be too far from it. We're all friends, and again, not just the cast, but the crew. It's a really tight-knit group," she continues.

The show, created by Christopher Storer, follows Jeremy Allen White as Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto, a chef who returns to his hometown of Chicago to manage his late brother's sandwich shop. He eventually transforms the sandwich shop into a fine-dining restaurant with the help of Sydney and Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).

The new season picks up after the explosive season 4 finale that saw Carmy telling Sydney and Richie he wants to step away from the restaurant.

"With no money, the threat of a sale and a torrential storm in their way, the new partners must band together with the rest of the team to achieve one last service, hoping they'll finally earn a Michelin star. Ultimately, they learn that what makes a restaurant 'perfect' might not be the food, but the people," the synopsis reads.

Edebiri teased her character's journey in the final season, saying, "Just from filming it, there was a lot of catharsis for me as somebody who's been embodying this character for five seasons, five years."

"I hope that for the viewers there's a similar feeling of catharsis," she adds.

All eight episodes of The Bear season 5 premiere June 25 on Hulu and Disney+.
