Amanda Seyfried was wearing more hats than she realized while making the erotic thriller *The Housemaid*.

During a recent appearance on *The Graham Norton Show*, the actress admitted that she had no idea she was being credited as an executive producer of the Paul Feig-directed movie until production was well underway.

"I'm a producer on it and I didn't know until three weeks in and I saw the call sheet and I was like, 'Executive producer? I didn't sign up for that,'" Seyfried told Norton and fellow guests Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi, and Johannes Radebe.**

Seyfried recalled that she reached out to producer Todd Lieberman to inquire about the credit and was told that her agent negotiated the title for her.

"I was like, 'This really better be a hit,'" the *Mean Girls* star quipped, drawing laughter from the studio audience. But Seyfried was quick to note that her role as executive producer was "one of those vanity credits," because as she poignantly admitted, "I didn't do s‑‑‑ to make that movie. I only acted in it."

She continued, "That's the thing about vanity credits. It's like, I don't want people to get it twisted. What Margot does is really intensely developing movies from jump. I just jumped in, had a bunch of fun and left. And now I'm like, they're sending me on a vacation."

As Norton pointed out, *The Housemaid* grossed 10 times its budget at the box office and garnered solid reviews when it opened in December.

Based on Freida McFadden's best-selling 2022 novel, the film follows Nina Winchester (Seyfried), a wealthy wife and mother who hires Millie (Sydney Sweeney), a young woman looking for a fresh start, to be a live-in housemaid. What starts out as a dream gig in a beautiful house quickly becomes a nightmare, as Nina goes from oddly demanding to downright unglued, making Millie question her own safety.

Last month Lionsgate announced that a sequel will adapt the second book in McFadden's trilogy, *The Housemaid's Secret*. That installment features a twisty story in which Millie lands another housemaid job that feels all too familiar. Production is slated to start this year.

Despite Seyfried's character completing her arc in the first film, the actress has been vocal about wanting to return for the follow-up.

"Oh yeah, absolutely [I'd do more films]," she told ** before *The Housemaid* hit theaters. "Listen, if it doesn't do well, you can call it off, but if it does, well, it's absolutely a franchise. I didn't sign on for anything but this one because my story ends, but they know that if they make another one, I'll be a part of it, because I had so much fun with Paul."
